INDIAN ORIGIN UK BASED POPSTAR RIKA WINS BRITASIA TV AWARD FOR THE BEST FEMALE UK ACT


Indian-Brit pop sensation RIKA aka (Chandrika Darbari) won the Award for the Best Female UK Act at BritAsia TV Music Awards 2019. The highly anticipated occasion celebrates the immense success and recognition of the talented Asian music industry. BritAsia TV features the very best in Asian music, both UK based and overseas music.


It included attendees, performances and awards for artists such as Sidhu Mose Wala, Mickey Singh, Arjun, Steel Banglez and performances from big UK artist such as Stefflondon, Mist, and many more in the British Asian Music and the entertainment industry, with big sponsors such as the UK national radio station the BBC and the biggest modelling agency in the UK Storm Model Management.


British Indian, pop singer, RIKA took home the award for the best female UK act. Following the success of her hit Radio 1 Track of the Week listed single ‘Hold On To Me’, Pop’s emerging artist RIKA reveals the powerful and emotive track ‘Open’. With its addictive sing-a-long vibes and anthem-like qualities, RIKA delivers a powerful performance, as she pulls at the heartstrings of listeners, all whilst laying her thoughts bare to the person in question.


Born to a Serbian mother and an Indian father, Rika has grown up in North-West London and is one of the few to break into the vibrant Western music scene as a British-Asian artist. Rika’s music draws upon her multicultural upbringing. In 2016, she penned and performed the song “For Peace in Syria” with her brother. The video was shot in Delhi and received over 900,000 on Youtube.


RIKA is the first teen Asian -British artist to be signed by Virgin EMI Record Labels. She joins the likes of young international superstars like Taylor Swift, Justin Beiber, Katy Perry, Shawn Mendes, Rihanna & Kanye West who were signed on in their early teens and went on to become worldwide phenomenon’s. RIKA recently successfully completed an international tour performing for over 10,000 people followed by a performance on her musical projects released officially on her Youtube Channel.


She says, “I am very honoured to win this award, it is not just for me but for my family, my team, my fans and everyone who has supported me in my career and this is only the beginning.”


With many more great singles and collaborations lined up for 2020, she is signed to the UK’s biggest label Virgin EMI, she is on the rise for taking over the world of pop. She has had millions of views on YouTube and millions of streams across all streaming services.
